Why does speed matter?
Speed refers to the internal spinning of the drive disk, as the disk spins the eye in the drive reads the data on the disk. The faster the drive spins the disk the faster that the data can be read, interpreted and relayed back to you, so it helps speed up the retrieval of information.

Size matters!
Depending on what your using your computer for, the drive size matters. For the average computer user 500 Gb is more than sufficient. If your recovery a lot of movies, or a die hard gamer. 500 Gb might fill up fast. So 1 Tb or more would be better. You can even link some drives together to get more space. Awhile back we build a computer with 8 Tb of warehouse capacity, that is over 1.5 million songs!
What do I need?
Depends on what you want to do, if your just surfing the internet, talking to friends or doing some E-Paper work then you'll be fine with a 120 Gb - 500 Gb drive running 7200 Rpm, depending on how much you save.
